This programme is being commissioned to be held for transmission on the death of Margaret Thatcher so will reflect the entirety of her life, including childhood and early political years but concentrate on her premiership and only touch on her post-premiership years - if at all.
Beyond looking at the major events of her decade in power, the programme will try and give a psychological profile of Margaret Thatcher. The programme will also reflect her achievements as a woman in a man’s world and study her rise power. It will identify the highs and lows of such a turbulent decade and an extraordinary life that spawned the popular programme starring Meryl Streep.
We will take into account the fact that Margaret Thatcher has become, in recent years, more popular, and to anticipate an outpouring of nostalgia that may well accompany her death – particularly considering the fact that she will have a public ‘grand’ funeral. But the programme will also reflect the decisive nature of her Premiership.
The programme will also address issues that are topical and therefore provoke revision of her time in Downing Street - for example the financial crisis and the Euro crisis.
We are interviewing former cabinet ministers and senior politicians from both parties, her aides and political advisers, and other witnesses.
We hope also to include some leading politicians of today, such as the Prime Minister.
The programme will include the best archive and stills from all available sources.
The style of the programme will be archive and interviews and use commercial music to reflect the times.
